HAMPTON, Va. (Aug. 11, 2026) … The Hampton University 2026-27 athletic year will kick off on Wednesday night as the women's soccer team heads to Bloomington, Ind., to tangle with the Indiana Hoosiers at 8 pm inside Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

This will be the first-ever matchup not only between the two schools, but the first time that Hampton has faced a Power Four opponent in women's soccer. The match will have live stats available and streamed on Big 10 Network Plus. Links are on the schedule page at hamptonpirates.com.

Hampton (5-12-1, 0-9 CAA) returns 14 players from last season under first-year head coach Sam Cain.  Nylah Jennings, who was named to the Preseason Honorable Mention All-CAA team on Monday, was the leading scorer last season with five goals and two assists for 12 points. Avery John, who had a hand in all three Hampton shutouts in 2025, returns in goal with a 2.07 goals against average and 83 saves in 17 matches. As a team, the Pirates return 77% of their goals and 73% of their assists.

Indiana (5-6-6, 2-4-5 Big10) returns five of their top six goal scorers from 2025 topped by second-year defender Grace Hamm who had four goals and one assist for nine points. The Hoosiers also return Emily Graham, Paige Droner, Riley Boyd and Aleyna Quinn who tallied two goals apiece. Indiana had 10 different goal scorers last season.

The Pirates will be home for their next match on Saturday facing Temple at 1 p.m. at Powhatan Stadium in Norfolk.
