Jayda Sutton Beats The Buzzer As Hampton Tops S.C. State 1-0

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (Sept. 30, 2026) … Sophomore Jayda Sutton drilled a blast into the back of the net from just outside the 18-yard box with five seconds left on the clock as Hampton scored a 1-0 victory over South Carolina State on Wednesday at Dawson Stadium.
Her tally is the latest in a game in which the Pirates scored a goal in a win. On Sept. 19, 2017, Sydney Jackson scored at 84:24 as Hampton defeated Mount Olive 2-1 for the previous latest marker. Nylah Jennings scored this season at 78:44 as Hampton defeated Delaware State 1-0.
Sutton won a loose ball nearly 20 yards from the goal and found the dead center of the net with five seconds remaining to break the scoreless contest. South Carolina State (0-11-1) had enough time for the ensuing kickoff, and the clock struck zero.
Hampton (2-8-1) controlled much of the match, outshooting the hosts 7-2 and generating five corner kicks to the Bulldogs' zero. Â Jackie Jenkins and Arianna Myers combined for the shutout as Jenkins made one save in the opening 45 minutes and Myers did not face a shot on goal.
The Pirates now start October back in CAA play as they host College of Charleston at 1 p.m. at Powhatan Field in Norfolk.
