SECOND HALF POWER
This season Hampton has been a team to show some second-half pop as 17 of the 25 goals scored heading into the final week of the season have come in the second half of games.
JENNINGS BREAKS CAREER GOALS SCORED MARK
With her two goals against Regent on Wednesday, Nylah Jennings broke the career goals scored record for Hampton as she now sits with 13. The previous mark was held by Sydney Jackson with 12 from 2015-18. A couple weeks ago she broke the career points scored mark as she now has 34 points topping the 27 by Jackson in her career.
RECORD SETTING BEAT THE BUZZER
Jayda Sutton's blast with five seconds left against South Carolina State on Sept. 30 was the latest in a game that a Pirate has scored in the history of the program. Prior to Sutton's tally, the latest game-winner in Hampton history was in 2017 by Sydney Jackson at 84:24 in a 2-1 win over Mount Olive on Sept. 19, 2017.
FINALLY ON CAMPUS
Between the closing of the south end zone of Armstrong Stadium and the recent work on the turf, the soccer team has been playing its home games in Williamsburg or in Norfolk at Powhatan Field.
Sunday's W&M contest marks the first time since October 23, 2019, a span of 2.565 days, that the women's soccer team will play a game on campus.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN..AND AGAIN
After starting at home against College of Charleston on Oct. 4, the Pirates began a run of six straight matches away from campus as they headed to Stony Brook. Hofstra, Virginia State, Campbell, Elon and Regent to finish out the month of October.
This actually is the second streak of the season with at least five games in a row on the road as after opening the home slate with Temple on Aug. 15, the Pirates faced Howard, USC Upstate, Delaware State, Longwood and George Mason over a three-week span. Hampton played UNCW at home on Sept. 20 to break that run.
LATEST NATIONALLY
According to research, Sutton's buzzer-beater at South Carolina State appears to be the among the latest a game-winning goal has been scored in an NCAA Division I women's soccer match this season. UConn defeated Boston University 2-1 on Aug. 23 with a goal as time expired and Michigan State scored with four seconds left to tie Notre Dame 2-2 on Sept. 3. Miami (Fla.) and Vermont each won a game this year with a second left.
