Caitlyn Peace cut the deficit in half in the 71
st minute with a blast off feeds from
Nylah Jennings and
Sierra Bartley but it wasn't enough as Hampton dropped a 2-1 season opener at Indiana on Wednesday.
Indiana (1-0) got on the board quickly as Bella Haggerty uncorked a blast from 25-yards out that sailed into the top of the goal just 94 seconds into the 2026 season putting the Hoosiers up 1-0.
She completed her brace by heading in a corner kick feed from Ella Stanley at 64:17 as she slotted it into the top left of the goal pushing the Indiana margin to 2-0.
The Pirates responded about seven minutes later as Peace found the back of the net taking feeds from Jennings and Bartley before smacking one in the top left corner in the 71st minute to trim the deficit to 2-1.
Hampton (0-1) continued attacking from there and got a corner kick chance at 86:39, but the Hoosiers kept the Pirates at bay.
On the night, Indiana outshot the Pirates 19-3 as they held a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Avery John made two saves in the first 52 minutes, while
Jackie Jenkins made three saves in 38 minutes of action.
Hampton hits the home pitch of Powhatan Field on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kick against Temple in Norfolk.
