Sailing Center
The Hampton University Sailing Center is located in the Marine Science Building. Located on the University’s waterfront in nearby Phoebus, Va., it provides direct access to the Chesapeake Bay and includes access to the University’s sailing dock.
The sailing program at Hampton University was established in 1995 and remains the first and only HBCU with a varsity co-ed sailing program. Alessandro Ambrosi served as the team’s first head coach from 1995-2025 quickly establishing a successful sailing program.
The Marine Science Building also serves as the primary facility for the Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences.
