Cordell Taylor

Cordell Taylor returns to the Hampton University football program, where he will serve as secondary coach for head coach Donovan Rose. Taylor last served in the same capacity with the Pirates in 2009 – Rose’s first season as head coach.

Taylor is a former Pirate with several years of professional football experience. He joins defensive coordinator Bernard Clark as assistant coaches in Rose’s first season who have returned for the 2013 season.

Taylor played for the Pirates from 1993-98 as a defensive back. After his career with the Pirates, Taylor played two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was then traded to the Seattle Seahawks before ending his NFL career with the Chicago Bears in 2000. He also played for the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe, before heading to the CFL – where in 2001 and 2003, he played for the Edmonton Eskimos.

Taylor’s coaching career began at Chattahoochee (Ga.) High School, where he served one season as the defensive backs coach. He then interned with the NFL Europe’s Berlin Thunder for a year, before reuniting with the Jaguars as an intern in the scouting department.

Taylor is a native of Norfolk, Va. and is married to Christina Taylor. He is also a member of the Metro Atlanta Chapter of the NFL Retired Players Association.
