Devan Hill

Devan Hill is in his ninth year working as an assistant with the Hampton University football team. During his previous eight seasons, Hill one all-conference linebacker, five all-conference safeties and five all-conference corners and a Pirate defensive unit that finished in the top 5 in the nation(FCS) in pass defense and interceptions 2003-2006 and 2010. He has coached on all three MEAC championship teams. He started coaching at Bethel High School in (2000) as defensive back coach and went to Menchville High School in Newport News, Va. (2001-2002) as a defensive coordinator. This pass year Hill was part of a defensive unit that was 3rd in the nation(FCS) in pass defense, total defense, and 4th in pass defense efficiency.

Hill was a four-year letterman and state champion at Bethel High School in Hampton, Va. (1990-1994). A four-year letterman and a two-year starter at cornerback for Joe Taylor and the Pirates, Hill was a member of a Hampton squad that claimed back-to-back MEAC championships in 1997 and 1998. He is a 2000 graduate of Hampton, earning his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management.

For the 2011 season, Hill wants his defensive backs to be No. 1 in the country in pass defense, pass defense efficiency and total interceptions. He expects to produce at least two All-Americans or All-MEAC players, help with the MEAC title and do well in the NCAA playoffs.

His upcoming hopefuls for this year are Micah Pellerin Ranked #4 in the FCS passes defended and #1 in the MEAC passed defended and James Butts a rising senior.
