Gregory Taylor Jr. is in his first year as assistant wide receivers coach with the Hampton University football program, where he will help Lamar Thomas with developing the Pirates’ wide receivers.

Taylor comes to Hampton from Sage Hill School, where he spent last season as the defensive coordinator. Prior to that, Taylor was the defensive backs coach at Palomar College from 2004-09. While at Palomar, Taylor helped 54 student-athletes sign with a Div. I school.

Taylor got his coaching start in 2003 at Westview High School, where he served as defensive coordinator and strength coach.

Taylor played his collegiate ball at College of Siskiyous (1997-99), where he earned All-Conference honors and was named First Team All-Northern California, before transferring to San Diego State – where he played in the 2002 Paradise Bowl.

Taylor received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, before earning a master’s degree in educational technology from National University in 2005. He earned another master’s degree in physical education from New Mexico Highlands in 2010.

Taylor has been a member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) since 2006.

A native of Los Angeles, Calif., Taylor is married to Janell Taylor. He is the father of four children: James Johnson (21), Jada Taylor (8), Anthony Taylor (5) and 3-month-old Kobe-Michael Taylor. He enjoys golf, family and community outreach in his spare time.
