After a short stint as an assistant coach at Lenoir-Rhyne where he worked with the team’s defensive backs, Le’Marcus Gibson joined the Hampton coaching staff in the summer of 2023. In his first season on the staff he worked with Hampton’s safeties. His responsibilities now include defensive pass game coordinator and safeties coach. Hampton’s pass defense was the top-ranked unit in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) in 2024 yielding just 167.8 yards per game. The unit ranked 11th nationally in the FCS.
 
Gibson spent the 2022 season at Division II West Texas A&M where he served as an assistant coach working with defensive backs. Under his tutelage, strong safety Tre Everett earned honorable mention All-CAA honors in 2024.
 
A native of Starkville, Miss., Gibson spent the 2022 season at Division II where he worked with the team’s defensive backs. For three seasons, he coached at Holmes Community College. He began his stint as defensive backs coach and associate head coach before serving as the defensive coordinator in his final two years with the Bulldogs.
 
Gibson served as defensive coordinator at Oklahoma Panhandle State in 2018 after spending two years as defensive backs coach and strength and conditioning coordinator for the Aggies. 
 
He began his coaching career at Grambling State in 2015 as strength and conditioning graduate assistant. He moved to Nichols State from 2015-16 where he coached the team’s safeties. 
 
He began his playing career at Hawaii but transferred to Mississippi Gulf Coast. After a year with the Bulldogs, he started as a walk-on at Louisiana where he became a standout on defense.
 
Gibson earned his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana in 2011.
