A native of Harrisonburg, Va., Mike Morris joined the Pirate coaching staff in 2025 as Director of Football Sports Performance. He came to Hampton after spending four seasons (2021-25) at East Carolina as assistant strength and conditioning coach.
Morris began his as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Norfolk State in 2014.
He moved to James Madison where he was assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2015-16 and assistant director of strength and conditioning from 2017-19. He helped the football team earn three bowl victories (2021 and 2024 Military Bowls and 2022 Birmingham Bowl), three Coastal Athletic Association championships, and the 2017 national championship. Morris also oversaw women’s basketball which won the 2023 AAC title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. He assisted women’s lacrosse which won the CAA title in 2017.
He moved to Bridgewater (Va.) as an assistant from 2019-20 and helped the team earn the 2019 Old Dominion Athletic Conference crown. He spent one year at OneLife Fitness before spending the last four years at East Carolina before joining the Hampton staff.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Shenandoah where he was a member of the Hornets football team, playing along the offensive line.
He and his wife, Christina Morris, have two children: a son Myles and a daughter Ryan.
