Stephen Field

Stephen Field enters his third year with the Hampton University football team, where he serves as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator under head coach Donovan Rose.

In his first season at Hampton, Field produced two of the top 10 running backs in the MEAC: First Team All-MEAC senior LaMarcus Coker, as well as junior Steven Robinson. Coker won the MEAC rushing title in 2009, becoming the first Pirate since 2006 to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. Robinson averaged 5.5 yards per rush on 97 carries on the season.

In his second season, Field produced the MEAC Rookie of the Year in freshman running back Antwon Chisholm. Antwon was one of the most exciting players in the MEAC in 2010 and was MEAC Newcomer of the week three times.

Field’s recruiting area consists of Hampton Roads, Southern Florida, and New Orleans.

Prior to coming to Hampton, Field spent two years as a graduate assistant coach with the Hurricanes. He worked primarily with Wesley McGriff and the secondary, mostly concentrating on the safeties. In the 2007 season, Field worked with the defensive line and was the assistant to the special team’s coordinator.

Before Miami, Field, 31, served as an assistant coach at Boyd Anderson High School, where he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He coached two seasons at Glades Central High School in Belle Glade, Fla., serving as the offensive run game coordinator, running backs coach and academic coach. While at Glades Central, he coached back-to-back 1,000 yard rushers - USF's Aston Samuels and current Miami running back Damien Berry and future NFL player.

Glades Central was the 2006 Florida state 3A champions. He also spent a season at Deerfield Beach High School, where he coached 1,000 yard rusher Roderick Ferguson, and four years at Miami Central High School, where he coached the top two statistical ranking wide receivers in Dade County in 2002 in All-Big East selection Willie Foster of Rutgers and Marcus Daniels, also of Rutgers. Prior to Miami, he coached current Hurricanes Damien Berry, Travis Benjamin (Freshman All-American), Joe Wylie and former Hurricanes Darnell Jenkins and Bryan Pata.

Fields has coached over 40 Division I athletes and currently has five former players in the NFL. Wide receiver Darnell Jenkins from the Houston Texans, linebacker Ali Highsmith and defensive end Calais Campbell from the Arizona Cardinals, Kenny Phillips from the New York Giants, and defensive tackle Anthony Toribio.

Field hails from West Palm Beach, and he played tight end for two seasons at Tuskegee University in Alabama. He earned a degree in business management from the University of Phoenix and his Masters Degree from The University of Miami in Liberal Studies. He was an all-state selection at his alma mater, Palm Beach Lakes High School.

Field has a seven-year old daughter, Le'ah Skye Field. His hobbies include working out, water sports, traveling and spending time with his family.
