Angela Balser is entering her second year as a graduate assistant for the Hampton University Lady Pirates softball team, where she plans to continue to motivate and encourage players to perform to the best of their ability. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Business Administration.
Balser is a native of Prince George, Va., where she attended Prince George High School. During high school, she played softball under Coach Pat Waguespack and was named the Female Athlete and Central District Player of the Year in 2004.
Balser started her college softball career in 2004 for the Lady Pirates under the late Tiny Laster and finished her career under the present coach, Regina Gibbons in 2008. Having the traditions of Coach Laster and the new vibes of Coach Gibbons, Balser will provide a well rounded view on the softball field.
Balser excelled on and of the field while attending Hampton. Some of her major academic accomplishments include being inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Athlete Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society and the Golden Key International Honor Society. In May 2008, Balser graduated from Hampton, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science degree.
As a Lady Pirate on Hampton University’s softball team, Balser saw time at first base, left field, right field and ended in center field her senior year. Throughout her years, Balser landed two MEAC All-Tournament awards in 2005 and 2007 and VaSID All-State Team in 2005 and 2008. Balser rallied her senior year to spark a career-high batting average of .388 in which she was named to the MEAC first-team and improved to number two on the all-time career home run list for Hampton University with 22 home runs.
