Yonetti Gwaltney enters her second year as Hampton University’s Assistant Softball Coach, where she plans to continue to carry on the visions of the late Tiny Laster with Head Coach Regina Gibbons.  In the 2008 season, the Pirates ended their season with a 31-18 overall record and were the top seed in the Northern MEAC Division.      
 
Yonetti Gwaltney is a native of Virginia Beach, VA.  She graduated with honors as a Lady Chief from Kempsville High School where she played softball under Coach Dean Spruill.  She then attended Hampton University as a freshman in August 2002.  Among excelling in athletics, she was named to several academic Honors Societies including Golden Key International Honor Society, Mu Kappa Tau – International Marketing Honor Society, and Chi Alpha Sigma – National College Athlete Honor Society.  In May 2006, she graduated with honors with a Bachelors of Science degree.
 
As a Lady Pirate on Hampton University’s Softball Team Gwaltney earned many accolades in centerfield.  Some of these achievements included MEAC 1ST Team and All-Tournament Team in 2003, VaSID All-State Team.  Two of her most well-known accomplishments were being ranked 2nd on the Women’s NCAA Softball Division 1 Stolen Bases List in 2003 and setting a new stolen base record in Hampton University’s All-Time record books.
