HAMPTON, Va. -- Lady Pirates freshman sensation Jericka Jenkins will be speaking out at the Hampton University Relay For Life event on Friday evening at 7 p.m. in Holland Hall.

Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) is an 18-year-old freshman who was diagnosed at 14 with Hodgkin's lymphoma, an abnormal growth of the cells of the lymph system.

Jenkins was the second leading scorer for the Lady Pirates this past season, averaging 8.5 a game. She scored a career-high 27 points against Coppin State on Feb. 21 behind seven 3-pointers. Jenkins also led the team with 2.5 assists per game.

“Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society” said professor Valerie Burges-Hall, who helped coordinate the event.

Jenkins and another cancer survivor will share their stories and take the first lap around the gymnasium. Everyone can join in on the next lap. After that, all Relay For Life teams from the community and Hampton University will walk the track.

There will be food and games, so come out and support as we join in the fight. For more information about Relay For Life, visit the website at www.relayforlife.org/hamptonuniversity.
