WASHINGTON, D.C. (Mar. 12, 2026) – Junior guard
Kiki McElrath scored 20 points to lead Hampton on Thursday night, but Quinzia Fulmore hit two free throws with three seconds remaining for the final margin as Elon defeated Hampton 67-62 in the second round of the CAA Tournament.
Elon (16-15) hit the first six points of the game and Hampton (10-21) got on the board with a three-pointer from
Olivia Smith with 6:49 left cutting the deficit in half at 6-3. Following four quick Elon points, McElrath and
Aaryn Battle hit consecutive triples helping Hampton trim the margin to 10-9 at the 3:24 mark.
Another burst from Elon, six straight points, pushed them up 16-9, but
Kiya Dorroh hit a free throw as Hampton trailed 16-10. A triple from Ashanti Fox put Elon up 19-10 after one.
McElrath hit a triple and Tyana Walker responded with a layup making the score 21-13 with 8:58 left in the half. Hampton scored the next 11 points finishing with a 15-2 run as Battle had a driving layup to lead 28-23 with 4:58 remaining in the half. The Pirates opened the quarter hitting all five shots from the field and three of those from behind-the-arc.
In the third, Laila Anderson hit a layup to even the game at 37 with 7:58 left forcing a Hampton timeout. The Pirates closed the quarter on an 11-2 run over the last 3:12 as McElrath hit a 25-footer at the buzzer to put Hampton ahead 53-46.
Smith opened the fourth quarter with a triple to give the Pirates their largest lead of the night at 56-46 at the 9:13 mark. Elon responded with a 19-4 run to take a 65-60 lead on a Walker jumper with 11 seconds left.
Battle added 13 points and six assists, while Dabo scored 10 points. Hampton, for the second straight game, hit 11 three-pointers to set a school CAA Tournament record.
