PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams each took home an event title at the 115th Penn Relays, which were held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the historic Franklin Field.
The Pirates won the IC4A Final of the 4x200-meter relay, with the foursome of
Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.),
Reggie Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.),
Devon Brown (Laurel, Md.) and
Brandon Jones (Virginia Beach, Va.) completing the race in 1:23.55. The team of
Francena McCorory (Hampton, Va.),
Racquel Vassell (Irvington, N.J.),
Petrice Richards (Manchester, Jamaica) and
Septima Glenn (Greer, S.C.) took the ECAC Final of the 4x100-meter relay on the women's side, running a 45.21.
That time was good enough for an NCAA regional qualifier. That same Lady Pirates foursome finished seventh in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:35.75.
The Pirates finished fifth in the 4x100-meter relay with an NCAA regional qualifying 40.08, thanks to the team of Anderson, Dixon, Jones and
Kevin Teel (Bowie, Md.). The foursome of
Damon Dixon (Great Falls, Va.),
Stephen Ramsey (Rochester, N.Y.),
Lamar Veale (Chesapeake, Va.) and
Predist Walker (Suffolk, Va.) came in sixth in the 4x110-meter shuttle hurdles, running a 57.65.
Walker also finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles, running a 14.21. That time was also an NCAA regional qualifier.
Rachel Lewis (Chesterfield, Va.) finished 11th in the long jump with a distance of 5.71 meters, while Vassell ran an NCAA regional qualifying 13.80 in the 100-meter hurdles to come in 17th.
The Pirates and Lady Pirates will return to action this weekend for the 2009 MEAC Outdoor Championship in Greensboro, N.C. Action will begin on Thursday with the decathlon and heptathlon events.
