NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Hampton University sailing team finished first out of eight teams on Sunday in the Christopher Newport University 2-on-2 Invitational.

The Pirates won all seven of the races run in the light, regular winds. Saturday's action was cancelled because of a lack of wind.

CNU-1 finished second at 6-1, while Web Institute finished 5-2 to come in third.

This is the second race Hampton has won this season; back in the fall, the Pirates won the The Webb Regatta hosted by CNU on Oct. 24-25. The Pirates have finished in the top three in six of their last nine races, dating back to the fall season.

Hampton will look to carry that momentum into the MAISA/SAISA Intersectional, which will be held Saturday and Sunday at Strawberry Banks. Action will begin on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the opening ceremonies.

A clinic will also coincide with Saturday's racing.
