HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University softball team defeated Howard University 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Lady Pirates Softball Complex.
The Lady Pirates (12-26, 5-4 MEAC) took two of three games over the weekend from Howard.
The Lady Bison struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Rebecca Kirshner drove in a run with a single to right field and advanced to second on a fielding error. But the Lady Pirates tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by sophomore

Hampton added three runs in the bottom of the third inning, starting when senior
Tiffany Brents (Chino Hills, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch. Junior
Sharde' Estep (Aquasco, Md.) then singled home a pair of runs to put the Lady Pirates up 4-1.
Howard (13-23, 4-5 MEAC) picked up a run in the top of the seventh when Emily Johnson drove in a run with a groundout, but Marisa Coats grounded out with a runner in scoring position to end the game.
Junior
Travonna Byrd (Newport News, Va.) picked up her fourth win of the season on the mound, going the full seven innings, giving up just two runs – one earned – and striking out three.
Estep led the Lady Pirates at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
