PELLUM INVITED TO LEBRON JAMES SKILLS ACADEMY

AKRON, Ohio – Hampton University rising senior guard Darrion Pellum has been invited to participate in the 2011 LeBron James Skills Academy, which will he held July 5-8 at James A. Rhoades Arena on the campus of the University of Akron.

Pellum (Hampton, Va.), who already participated in the Kevin Durant Skills Academy in Chicago, Ill. on June 26-28, was a First Team All-MEAC selection this past season after helping the Pirates win the MEAC Tournament crown and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

He was second in the MEAC in scoring with 17.5 points per game, scoring in double figures 29 times – including a career-high 34 points against Dominican (Calif.) on Dec. 29, 2010. He also pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds against Delaware State on Jan. 29 to go along with 28 points for his first career double-double. Pellum was also second in the MEAC in steals, averaging 1.7 per contest.

Pellum, who was named MEAC Player of the Week on Nov. 29, averaged 17.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in the MEAC Tournament, earning Most Outstanding Player honors.

He was also named Second Team All-State by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) and HBCU Division I Second Team All-American by BASN.

Workouts for college and high school players will be conducted June 5-7, with tournament competition beginning on June 7. Team rosters will be posted on the academy's website on July 5.
