HAMPTON, Va. – Heading into the New Year, the Hampton University women's basketball team is still ranked among the best in all of NCAA Division I in several categories.
Heading into Monday's home contest against East Carolina, the Lady Pirates are third in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage, holding opponents to just 21.5 percent shooting (34-for-158) from behind the arc.
Hampton has held four opponents to just one 3-pointer this season.
Hampton (9-3) is also 15th in the nation in scoring defense, holding opponents to just 50.6 points per game. Eight of the Lady Pirates' 12 opponents so far this season failed to break the 60-point barrier, and five of their last eight never reached 50 points.
The Lady Pirates are also 24th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage at 36.4 percent (84-for-231) and 29th in 3-pointers made per game with 7.0.
Hampton is also 29th in the nation in turnovers per game with 14.6 and 31st in turnover margin at +5.17.
Senior guard
Choicetta McMillian (Fairfield, Texas) is fifth in Div. I in 3-pointers made per game, averaging 3.3 per contest, while senior guard
Jericka Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) is 11th in the nation in assists, averaging 6.1 per contest.
