TERRIERS USE BIG SECOND HALF TO DEFEAT PIRATES 56-51

Box Score WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Hampton University men's basketball team fell 56-51 to the Terriers of Wofford College on Friday afternoon at Trask Coliseum in their third game of the Nations of Coaches Classic.
 
Wofford (2-4), led by Lee Skinner, scored 37 points in the second half on its way to the win. Skinner lead all scored with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Pirates (0-4) dropped their fourth game of the season while shooting 42 percent (22-for-52) from the floor and 50 percent (5-for-10) from the free throw line. Hampton also won the battle on the glass, grabbing 44 total rebounds.
 
Senior forward David Bruce (Linden, N.J.) led the Pirates, as he recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
 
The Pirates got off to a slow start, but took the lead when freshman Dwight Meikle (Baltimore, Md.) hit a floater in the lane to make the score 8-6 at the 14:55 mark. Hampton extended that lead to as many as 13 points at the 2:14 mark with the score 25-12 following a jumper from junior Dwight Meikle (Manhattan, N.Y.).
 
The Terriers answered with a 7-0 run before the end of half to cut the lead to six points, 25-19. Hampton got the final score of the half to go into the locker room up 27-19.
 
Wofford chipped into the Pirates' lead throughout the second half until they tied the game for the second time at 40-40 with 5:19 to play. The Pirates regained the lead, but Karl Cochran nailed a 3-pointer with 2:58 to play to give the game its final tie of the day at 43-43.
 
The Terriers built momentum off that 3-pointer and went on a 6-0 run to take their largest lead of the game with 53 seconds left to play. Hampton would only get back as close as three points on three different occasions, but never any closer.
 
Wofford held off the Pirates for their second win of the season.
 
The Pirates scored 38 points in the paint and 17 points off the bench. They also committed 24 turnovers, which the Terriers converted into 24 points.
 
Wofford was led by Skinner with his 21 points, and Cochran, who finished with 18 points.
