PIRATES FINISH TIED FOR SIXTH IN IC4A CHAMPIONSHIPS

BOSTON, Mass. –
The Hampton University men's track & field team finished tied for sixth in the 2012 IC4A Indoor Championships, held Saturday and Sunday on the campus of Boston University.

The Pirates finished with 29 points, tying Harvard for sixth. Cornell won the team title with 74 points.

Senior Reggie Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) won the 60-meter dash after running a 6.73, while also running a 21.36 in the 300-meter dash to come in third.

Sophomore Je'Von Hutchison (Boynton, Fla.) took the 400-meter dash after turning in a school-record and personal-best 46.75. No other Pirate has ever broken the 47-second barrier in this event.

The Pirates also finished eighth in the 4x800-meter relay (7:37.38) and ninth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:23.35).

The Lady Pirates, with 21 points, finished 13th in the ECAC Indoor Championships, which were held Saturday and Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center in Boston, Mass. Cornell won the team title with 55 points, one point over second-place Maryland Eastern Shore.

Senior Claudia Calder (Kingston, Jamaica) turned in the Lady Pirates' best individual effort of the weekend, finishing second in the women's pentathlon with a season-high 3,728 points. She won two of the five events, taking the 800-meter run and high jump.

Sophomore Breana Norman (Virginia Beach, Va.) came in third in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.51 – after running a season-best 8.45 in the semifinal heats – and she finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.57.

Sophomore Alaine Tate (Queens, N.Y.) ran a 2:10.66 to finish sixth in the 800-meter run.

Dixon will next compete in the 2012 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Boise, Idaho. He automatically qualified for the NCAA 60-meter dash earlier this season with a 6.60 at the Penn State National Invitational.
