SAILING WINS WILLIAM & MARY 2-ON-2 TEAM RACE

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Hampton University sailing team picked up its first victory of the season on Saturday and Sunday, winning the William & Mary 2-on-2 Team Race.

Hampton has won a total of eight regattas in the last three seasons.

The Pirates defeated host William & Mary by winning 13 races and losing one, while the Tribe won 12 races and lost two. In all, 84 races were run in total under breezy, sunny conditions both days.

Virginia came in third, while Princeton finished fourth. Christopher Newport (fifth) and Salisbury (sixth) rounded out the field.

The Pirates will close the 2011-12 season on Saturday and Sunday, when they head to Geneva, N.Y. to compete in the America Trophy for the third straight year. The America Trophy serves as the MAISA conference championship.
