PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Hampton University women's golf team finished third in the 26th PGA Minority Collegiate Championship, held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Ryder and Wanamaker Courses.
The Lady Pirates finished with a three-day score of 956 (329-314-313), 40 strokes behind women's team champion Bethune-Cookman.
Junior
Nicole West (Springdale, Md.) shot a team-best 230 (83-76-71), and her third-round 71 was the team's low round of the tournament and the second-lowest round overall. Junior
Kayla Williams (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) fired a 237 (80-76-81) and recorded her seventh round in the 70s of the season.
Senior
Dionne West (Springdale, Md.) came in with a 244 (81-85-78), while sophomore
Maria Stewart (Newport News, Va.) fired a 245 (85-77-83).
Senior
Iman Ellis (Reynoldsburg, Ohio), who earned the John Cash Scholarship during the Championship Welcome Dinner on May 10, shot a 260 (87-87-86).
The men's golf team finished 11th in the men's Division I standings with a three-day score of 1,056 (351-359-346). Texas Pan American won the men's Div. I team title with a 904 over three days.
Junior
Curtis Fearrington (Attica, N.Y.) paced the Pirates with a three-day score of 238 (79-82-77), and his third-round 77 was the team's low round of the weekend. Fearrington ended the season with four rounds in the 70s.
Sean Moore shot a 270 (91-96-83), while freshman
Mark Irwin came in with a 271 (91-88-92). Freshman
Tyler Davis shot a 287 (90-103-94).
Senior
Geoffrey Napper (Bowie, Md.) fired a 295 (100-93-102).
