NORFOLK, Va. – Ten members of the Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams were named 2012 MEAC All-Academic selections, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
In all, 131 student-athletes from the MEAC's 13 institutions were recognized for academic success during the 2011-12 academic year.
Senior
Devan Clark (Lorton, Va.) and sophomore
Larry Ramirez (Pleasantville, N.J.) were the Pirates' MEAC All-Academic honorees.
Eight Lady Pirates were named MEAC All-Academic: junior
Rachel Burrell (Hampton, Va.), sophomore
Teiara Denmark (Virginia Beach, Va.), junior
Shaquanda Gainey (Camden, N.J.), junior
Cearha Miller (Waldorf, Md.), sophomore
Breana Norman (Virginia Beach, Va.), sophomore
Maressa Pinnock (Chesapeake, Va.), sophomore
Cydney Robinson (Portsmouth, Va.) and sophomore
Devyn Thompson (Chicago, Ill.).
“I applaud our men's and women's outdoor track and field student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during the academic school year,” said MEAC Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. “I would also like to congratulate the coaches and academic support staff for their contributions to the success of these stellar student-athletes.”
MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average (GPA), as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
The Pirates and Lady Pirates will be in Greensboro, N.C. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the 2012 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
