HAMPTON SIGNEE COLEMAN-COX ANOTHER SCORING THREAT

HAMPTON, Va. – Bayley Coleman-Cox wants to become an architect.

Coleman-Cox, a 5-foot-10 senior guard at Jordan (N.C.) High School, is also an architect on the basketball court, building a portfolio of scoring that has made her the leading scorer, male or female, in Jordan history.

She also holds the school single-game scoring record with 47 points, which she accomplished on Dec. 28, 2011. She committed to Hampton University in September and has since signed, giving head coach David Six another potentially explosive offensive presence for next season.

“Bayley shoots the ball really well,” Six said. “She's unbelievable when it comes to scoring the basketball.”

So far this season, Coleman-Cox is averaging 21.1 points per game for the Falcons, who as of Feb. 13 are 13-9 overall. Given the Extra Effort Award by WRAL in Raleigh, N.C. on Feb. 12, she is also an accomplished artist and an Honors student.

On top of her academic accomplishments, her father and high school coach, Ty Cox, calls Coleman-Cox one of the 10 best high school players in all of North Carolina.

Coleman-Cox, who averaged 22.3 points per game and was named All-State as a junior, also drew interest from such schools as Old Dominion, Georgetown, William & Mary, and Middle Tennessee. ESPN.com listed Coleman-Cox as a three-star recruit.

She will join a Lady Pirates squad in 2013-14 that will also feature scoring threat Malia Tate-DeFreitas – who is fifth all-time in Pennsylvania scoring.

Like Coleman-Cox, DeFreitas is her school's all-time leading scorer, male or female.

“Bayley will be a tremendous complement to Malia,” Six said. “She'll definitely be the yin to Malia's yang.”
