HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University women's track & field team won the team title at the Hampton University Invitational on Saturday at the Boo Williams SportsPlex, while the men's track & field team came in fourth in the men's standings.
The Lady Pirates tallied 225 points in topping the women's standings, while the Pirates wound up with 153.5 points. Virginia Wesleyan topped the men's team standings with 200 points.
The Lady Pirates took nine event titles, while the Pirates won eight events.
Senior
Breana Norman (Virginia Beach, Va.) won three events by herself, taking the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and 60-meter hurdles. She ran a season-best 7.44 in the 60-meter dash, while taking the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 25.08.
She then ran an 8.54 in taking the 60-meter hurdles.
Sophomore
Ce'aira Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) ran a season-best 2:12.39 to take the 800-meter run, while senior
Malekah Holland (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won the 400-meter dash with a season-best 56.53.
Brown and Holland also took gold in the 4x400-meter relay, teaming up with junior
Le'Quisha Parker (Silver Spring, Md.) and senior
Emmy Fraenk (Hampton, Va.) to run a 3:49.74.
Senior
Nichelle Harris (Rahway ,N.J.) won the 3,000-meter run in 10:55.94.
Senior
Teiara Denmark (Virginia Beach, Va.) won the long jump with a season-best mark of 6.12 meters (20 feet, 1 inch), while junior
Shalanda Grier (High Point, N.C.) took the triple jump with a mark of 10.84 meters (35 feet, 6.75 inches).
Sophomore
Trey Holloway (Chesapeake, Va.) swept the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles events, running a 7.08 in the 60-meter dash and a season-best 7.99 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Junior
Chidi Okezie (Philadelphia, Pa.) took the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.89, while junior
Edose Ibadin (Glendale, Md.) won the 800-meter run with a 1:56.75.
Okezie and Ibadin also teamed with senior
Je'Von Hutchison (Boynton, Fla.) and freshman
Rayon Black (Kingston, Jamaica) in winning gold in the 4x400-meter relay after running a 3:18.14.
Junior
Mohamed Labor-Koroma (Chantilly, Va.) won the pole vault after leaping 3.34 meters (10 feet, 11.5 inches), and sophomore
Emmanuel Price (St. Louis, Mo.) jumped 6.74 meters (22 feet, 1.5 inches) to take the long jump.
