@HAMPTON_FB COUNTDOWN TO 1,000: RICHMOND

HAMPTON, Va. – When the Hampton University football team takes the field at Armstrong Stadium this coming Saturday, it will take one more step toward a milestone: the Pirates' 12 p.m. kickoff against Richmond will be the program's 999th all-time game.

"Facing an in-state opponent is always exciting, but it is even more special as the program inches closer to a historic and significant milestone," University President Dr. William R. Harvey said. "I wish to commend Coach Maynor and the student-athletes for their continued dedication to the University and to the game of football."

One of Hampton's five appearances in the NCAA Div. I FCS Playoffs came against Richmond; in 2005, the Spiders visited Armstrong Stadium for a first-round match-up.

After this past Saturday's 35-20 win over Kentucky State, the Pirates have an all-time mark of 549-415-34 (a .550 winning percentage). The win marked the first time since 2011 that the Pirates have won their season opener.
