NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton University junior guard
Malia Tate-DeFreitas was named Co-Player of the Week by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), the conference office announced on Monday.
It was her second such honor this season.
Tate-DeFreitas averaged 24.3 points and 6.8 rebounds in four games this past week, helping the Lady Pirates go 2-2 over that stretch. She was named MVP of the FIU Surfing Santa Classic after dropping a season-high 33 points against Rhode Island on Tuesday.
She also had her first double-double of the season on Monday against Wake Forest, scoring 17 points and grabbing a career-high 12 rebounds.
On Friday, Tate-DeFreitas dropped 27 at Stetson, and she followed that up on Sunday with a 20-point effort at Princeton – a game in which she also had four steals. For the week, Tate-DeFreitas made 10 of her 32 3-pointers.
She is currently fourth on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,563 points.
Alicia McCray of Florida A&M was also named Co-Player of the Week, while London Holland – also from Florida A&M – was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.
Norfolk State's Siobhan Beslow was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week.
