DAYTONA BEACH, FL. – The Hampton University tennis teams faced off against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent Bethune-Cookman University in a non-conference matchup on Thursday and both teams fell to the host Wildcats. On the men's side, the hosts won 6-1 while the women of Bethune won 5-2.
In the men's match, Hampton scored a win at No. 3 singles as
Charles Hudson scored a 6-4, 6-3 win over Justin Hall. The Pirates lost a three-set match at No. 2 singles as
Fedor Shirin dropped a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 decision to Alexander Chepik.
For doubles, Hampton won at No. 3 as
Charles Hudson and
Miguel Suarez pulled out a 6-4 win over Walid Gtari and Pablo Opez. The hosts won at No. 1 and 2 to take the doubles point.
During the women's match, the Lady Pirates won both of their points in singles. At No. 2,
Cherise Slocombe defeated Matea Roki 6-1, 6-4, while
Mikaela Pierce won a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) decision over Hilary Hanton.
