GUAYNABO, PUERTO RICO – The Hampton University men's basketball team opened a three-game weekend in Puerto Rico by defeating UC Bayamon 88-60 at the Coliseo Mario Morales Guaynabo on Friday night.
In a game played with four 10-minute quarters, the Pirates swarmed the hosts on the defensive end holding them to 26.7% shooting from the floor (20-of-75). After a tight first quarter that saw Hampton hold a 17-9 lead, the Pirates got rolling in the second quarter outscoring UC Bayamon 30-18 to lead 47-27 at the half.
Jermaine Marrow topped Hampton with 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds to lead four in double figures. Austin Colbert added 13,
Lysander Bracey scored 12 while Greg Heckstall had a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.Â
Hampton will return to action on Saturday night at 8 pm in its second game.
