HAMPTON, Va. -- The Hampton University track and field teams competed this weekend in a pair of meets at the North Carolina A&T Aggie Invitational and the George Mason Spring Invitational.

For the women,
Autumn Smith would qualify in two events to compete at the IC4A/ECAC by placing third with a time of 1:01.54 in the 400 hurdles and finishing seventh in the 100 meters hurdles running a 14.07.
Jaelen Leonard would also qualify to compete at IC4A/ECAC, finishing in second place jumping 19-5¼.

Corneisha Mitchell had two top five finishes in the hammer and discus. Â She qualified for the IC4A/ECAC in the discus placing third with a throw of 156-11. Â In the hammer she was fifth with a toss of 144-1.

Ayana Culhane placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 123-11. Â

For the men, Brenan Garrett won the 100 meters in a season best time of 10.50.

GEORGE MASON SPRING INVITATIONAL
The distance runners went to Fairfax to participate in the George Mason Spring Invitational and came away with a few good marks.

Emmanuel Too ran the fastest 1500 in the MEAC this year with a 3:53.98, while
Wesley Kirui ran a MEAC best 8:57.72 to win the 3000-meter steeplechase.

For the women, Eusila Chepkemei won the 1500 in 4:30.47 which is the second fastest in the MEAC this year.Â
Asia Johnson took tenth in the 3000 steeplechase in 12:17.13.

The track teams will next compete in the Penn Relays April 26-28.
