NORFOLK, Va. – In the softball version of the Battle of the Bay – each team drew a win on Saturday at Norfolk State. Hampton scored a 10-1 six-inning win in game one, while Norfolk State took a 5-2 win in the nightcap.
In game one, Hampton jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second as
Lorena Alvarez singled in
Sarah Kollas with the first run and
DaSha Hill drove in Alvarez and
Daniella Milloy with a single to right-center.Â
After giving up a run in the bottom of the second, Hampton put up a seven-spot in the top of the sixth as
Alana VanDenburg drove in two with a single and
Cassidy Blackwell drove in two with a double to highlight the outburst.
Hill was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Blackwell and VanDenburg drove in two each to lead Hampton at the plate.Â
Allyson Babinsack evened her record at 11-11 with a five-hit outing on the mound and allowing an unearned run.
Game two saw Hampton scratch single runs in the second and third innings, but Norfolk State used a solo home run from Jaylene Pryor in the fifth and a two-run Kylee Lopez home run in the sixth to win 5-2.
Taylor Warrick and VanDenburg went 2-for-4 each, while
Morgan Crawford and
Brianna Anderson drove in the runs for Hampton.
These teams will close out the three-game series on Sunday at noon for a single-game.
