EUGENE, Or. – Hampton University freshman
Wesley Kirui will participate in the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Track and Field Championships starting on Wednesday at the University of Oregon.
Kirui became the first Hampton distance runner to earn a spot in the nationals as he will participate in the 3000 meter steeplechase on Wednesday night. He runs in the first of two 12-person heats starting at 8:02 pm.  The top five finishers in each heat and the next two fastest times will advance to Friday night's 8:54 pm final.
A freshman from Kenya, Kirui ran a school record 8:45.73 in the NCAA East Regional to qualify for the nationals.Â
Wednesday and Thursday will be broadcast on ESPN2; Wednesday's coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m., with Thursday's coverage starting at 7 p.m. On Friday, ESPN will broadcast starting at 8:30 p.m., and Saturday's coverage on ESPN will begin at 6:30 p.m.
