NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Hampton University men's tennis team opened its 2019 season on Sunday night with a 7-0 loss to Richmond at the James River Country Club. Richmond took the doubles point winning the two contested matches 6-1 at line one and 6-4 at line two as
Davy Van Geerke and
Luke Thompson dropped a tight match.. Â
In singles, Van Geerke pushed his opponent Brice Polender at line one singles losing 6-4, 6-4. Thompson dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Matt Fernandez at line three.Â
Hampton will next see action on Feb. 10 taking on Big South foe Winthrop University in a match at 11 am at Old Dominion University Folkes-Stevens Center.
