HAMPTON, Va. – Junior Brianna Anderson drove in three runs on the day with two hits, as Hampton defeated Winthrop 9-1 in five innings in the final game of a three-game Big South Conference series.
 
Winthrop got on the board in the top of the first as Blake Wallert started with a double to right centerfield and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by Keleigh Romine to give Winthrop a 1-0 lead.
 
Hampton would respond in the third as Samyah Richardson ripped a double into left field and scored as Taylor Warrick smoked a triple to right-center to tie the game at 1-1. Two batters later, Warrick crossed the plate on a single by Brianna Anderson to give the Lady Pirates a 2-1 lead over the Eagles. After Anderson stole second, Kial Watts doubled to right field to bring Anderson home for a 3-1 lead.
 
In the fourth, after one out Morgan Crawford would reached base on a walk and advance to second on a groundout. Richardson would driver her in with a single up the middle for a 4-1 lead. A single by Warrick moved Richardson to second and both runners would steal a base before a walk to DaSha Hill loaded the bags.  Each moved up a base on a wild pitch as Hampton pushed the lead to 5-1.  Hill and Warrick both scored on a double by Anderson down the left line to push the lead 7-1.
 
Hampton ended the game in the bottom of the fifth by the eight-run rule as they scored twice.  Janae Lyles would start it with a double into centerfield and was replaced by pinch runner Joya Greer. With two on and one out, Greer scored as pinch-hitter Ashley Grassini doubled into center for an 8-1 lead.  Richardson then dropped a bunt allowing pinch-runner Camille King to score the game-ending run.
 
Allyson Babinsack pitch four innings giving up three hits and zero runs to earn the win.   Richardson was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, while Anderson was 2-for-3 with three driven in.
 
Hampton hits the road to take on Big South foe Radford University Friday and Saturday April 19-20 in Radford, Virginia.
