LYNCHBURG, VA – The Hampton University track teams continued their outdoor seasons on Wednesday participating in the Liberty Twilight Qualifier in Lynchburg, Va at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex.

For the women, the 4x100 relay team Autum Smith, Asha Copeland, Isis Brooks, and Mallory Pitchford took first with a time of 45.73. 

Individually, while both ran IC4A/ECAC qualifying times, Brooks would take first in the 100 meters with an 11.56, while Copeland placed third with 11.73. High Jump saw Katlin Scott finished second with a leap of 1.59 meters (5 feet 2 ½  inches), and Jailyn Raines landed in third with an jump of 1.54 meters (5 feet ½ inches). Another IC4A/ECAC Qualifier, Kiyanna Thomas finished fourth with a toss of 14.00 meters (45 feet 11.25 inches) in the shot put. 

In the 4x100 relay, Dylan Beard, Moffat Wanjiru, Derrick Price, Joshua Hagins ran an IC4A/ECAC qualifying time of 42.28 to finish third. Behind Jerrick Powell, Wanjiru, Price, and Jaelen Williams, Hampton took second in the 4x400 with an IC4A/ECAC qualifying time of 3:13.94.

Senior Tayvon Burris ran an IC4A/ECAC time of 1:50.59 for a third place finish in the 800 meters. Khalil Gary took fourth in the 400 meters hurdles with a 56.16 and Jaelan Williams takes fourth In the 110 hurdles with an IC4A/ECAC qualifying time of 14.31.

Discus action, Nicholas Edwards took second with an IC4A/ECAC toss of 50.77 meters (166 feet 7 inches) and Joshua Hunter placed fourth with a toss of 46.78 meters (153 feet 6 inches). Hunter also added a second placed finished with a hammer throw of 50.81 meters (164 feet 7 inches).

Edwards now has the top throw in discus in the Big South Conference and has broken the school record.

The track teams will next compete in the Big South Championship starting on Wednesday May 8 through Friday May 10 Hosted by Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C.
