SECOND HALF RALLY FALLS SHORT IN LADY PIRATES LOSS TO HIGH POINT

HAMPTON, Va. -- Despite a season-high 25 points and 11 rebounds from Nylah Young, Hampton made a second half rally but fell short in an 81-77 loss to High Point on Saturday afternoon.

After a nip and tuck first quarter, the Panthers raced out to a 38-30 lead on a pair of Amana McNair free throws with 1:51 left in the half.  Hampton (10-8, 6-3) closed the half scoring 10 of the last 12 points as a Young 3-ball at the halftime buzzer evened the match at 40.

High Point (8-10. 6-3) held the lead throughout the third and into the fourth, but Hampton trimmed the lead to one on a pair of MaKayla Timmons free throws with 5:05 left to trail 67-66.
In the fourth, Hampton got within three points on two occasions, the last being on a Dlayla Chakolis free throw with 14 seconds left at 80-77.  Camryn Brown went 1-of-2 with 11 seconds left for the final margin.

Joining Young in the 20-point club was Timmons with 22 points, five assists and five rebounds, while Ashley Bates added 11 points, six rebounds and two steals.

High Point was paced by Skyler Curran with 28 points, 20 in the first half, while Zaria Wright had 18 off the bench and Brown added 16.

Hampton returns to action on Tuesday night hosting Longwood at 7 pm.
