CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Hampton University freshman outfielder
Skylar Chavez was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week as announced today by the conference office.
Chavez batted .421 with eight hits, 11 runs, three doubles, two home runs, and five RBI in six games over the weekend. She started her weekend with a 2-2 performance, two runs and two walks in a 6-4 victory over Delaware State. Chavez continued her streak into Sunday against Morehead State with a home run, a double, two runs, and two RBI. She finished her weekend helping the Pirates to a 7-5 victory with two runs, two RBI, and a home run vs. Howard.
Through 15 games, Chavez elads the team in runs scored (23) and stolen bases (11). Her run total puts her second nationally in runs per game (1.53).
Hampton (12-3) returns to action this weekend in the Hampton Invite starting with St. Peter's on Friday at noon and Delaware at 2 pm.
