CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 2021-22 Big South Conference Preseason All-Conference basketball teams were announced on Wednesday morning in conjunction with Media Day and Hampton had a pair of representatives.
On the women's team, sophomore forward
Nylah Young was a second team selection. Last year she averaged 13.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The Suffolk, Va. native had double-doubles against Charleston Southern (17 pts-10 rebounds) and High Point (19 points-10 rebounds). She matched her career high hitting three 3-pointers against USC Upstate on Jan. 16, 2021. Young earned All-Conference as a freshman and second team honors in 2019-20.
Russell "Deuce" Dean earned second team honors for the men. Dean was an honorable mention All-Conference selection in 2020-21 after averaging 11.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. He notched career highs of 22 points at Radford, 14 assists against Gardner-Webb and 10 rebounds at Longwood last year. Deuce recorded eight games of at least seven assists and had a double-double of 14 points to go with those 10 rebounds at Longwood.
The Lady Pirates open their season at Columbia on November 9 and will play their first home game on November 13 against Richmond. The men's team opens with a pair of home games on November 9 against Mid-Atlantic Christian and again on November 13 against Regent.
