TRACK TEAMS OPEN SEASON WITH TWIN SECOND PLACE FINISHES

HAMPTON, VA  – The Hampton men's and women's track teams both brought home second place team finishes in the HBCU vs. Ivy League Challenge Saturday while the women throwers competed in Newport News at the CNU Holiday Open on Sunday.

In Boston the Lady Pirates were led by Jahnelle Saunders who won the long jump with the sixth best jump in the country at 6.06m (19' 10.75") Saunders also finished second in the 60m hurdles turning in the number 13 time in the country at 8.52. Saunders rounded out her day with a second place finish in the high jump clearing a height of 1.62m (5' 3.75").  Amira Aduma placed second in the long jump behind Saunders but her distance of 6.05m (19' 10.25'') is currently the eighth best jump in the country.

The men were led by Moffatt Wanjiru who won the 60m with a time of 6.79 and finished third in the 300m with a time of 34.08. The men's mile relay team of Noah Langford, Josiah Hill, Abraham Evans, and Dugion Blackmon won the event with a time of 3:19:96. Dugion Blackmon won the 600m with at time of 1:21.23

The throwers on the women's team competed at Christopher Newport on Sunday in the CNU Holiday Open.
 
 The Lady Pirates were led by Victoria Caldwell who won the weight throw with a personal best of 15.46m (50' 8.75"). Nya Harmon won the shot put with a new Hampton freshman record and personal best throw of 13.75m (45' 1.5").
