Pirate Sailing Finish Second at Webb/Wollum Trophy

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. (Oct. 9, 2023) … The Hampton University sailing team wrapped up the Webb/Wollum Trophy Sunday evening. The regatta originally was scheduled to compete in September but with impending weather, the contest had to pushed to a later date.

Coach Alessandro Ambrosi's squad finished second with 60 points falling just short of Christopher Newport University. However, the Pirates were able to place ahead of schools such as Old Dominion, the U.S. Naval Academy, Virginia, and William & Mary.

Two divisions competed this weekend with a total of ten teams participating in the event. Hampton's A Division squad finished second with 44 points. This group for the Pirates secured two first-place finishes along with two more top-three finishes. HU's B unit would have the lowest score out of any team competing with 16 points. The Coach Ambrosi's squad won eight out of the ten races. The lowest finish the B Division had this weekend was third place
