Hampton Volleyball Falls to Seahawks of UNCW in Four Sets

WILMINGTON, N.C. (Oct. 12, 2024) … The Lady Pirates fell to the Seahawks of UNCW in four sets. After dropping the first two sets 25-18, Coach Ronaldo Pacheco's team took the third stanza. In the third frame, Hampton jumped out to an early lead and remained in control. The Seahawks claimed the final set by starting out on an 8-2 run. 

While Hampton trailed early in the first stanza, the Lady Pirates made it even at the 7-7 mark. After HU had the slight advantage of 8-7, the Seahawks rattled off eight consecutive points. A kill by Madison Clark helped Hampton halt UNCW's run. The Lady Pirates brought the set back to within six twice down the stretch but the Seahawks remained in control. 

UNCW built a slight lead in the second frame taking advantage of errors made by Hampton. HU's Shachia Lamb brought the Lady Pirates back to within two points. The Seahawks once again were able to produce a run to swing the set in their favor 12-5. While Hampton continued to battle, the Seahawk's lead propelled UNCW to take the second stanza. 

The Lady Pirates started the third set of strong taking seven of the first 10 points. While UNCW shrunk the advantage down to two at the 9-7 mark, Hampton persevered taking the next three points. Towards the end of the Cortni Adams was crucial for Coach Pacheco's side. The senior tallied three kills and a block down the stretch for the Lady Pirates.   

After dropping the third frame, the Seahawks started off the fourth set strong jumping out to an 8-2 lead. Hampton battled to bring it back within three but could not tie the stanza. UNCW took the final set  25-17. 

Both Madison Clark and Maria Clara De Andrade finished the match with a team-high 10 kills. Freshman Morgan Warren tallied 13 assists and 12 digs. 

The Lady Pirates return to action inside Holland Hall on Oct. 16 at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday's match will also be steamed on FloSports.
