Daniel Johnson Receives CAA Rookie of the Week Honors

HAMPTON, Va. (Dec. 30, 2024) … Hampton's Daniel Johnson has been named the Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Week. The Pirates defeated rival Howard 83-67 inside the Convocation Center. The Chicago, Ill. native, had nine points off the bench while going 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.

Johnson's award marks the second straight week that the program has claimed the CAA Rookie of the Week selection. Since joining the CAA the program has not received Player of the Week awards in consecutive weeks. Coach Ivan Thomas in his first season at the helm continues to hit marks the program has not hit in a long time. The win over Bison marked the first time the Pirates have finished a month undefeated since the 2002-03 campaign. Hampton resumes conference play on Jan. 2 against Charleston. Hampton heads into the new year above .500 for the first time since the 2010-11 season. Thursday's contest is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
