CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb 24, 2024)- The Pirates lacrosse team was defeated on Saturday in Charlotte, N.C. with a final score of 14-7.
How it Happened
The matchup was the second time seeing each other in program history after Queens was victorious last season in Hampton.
Early in the first quarter Queens jumped out to an early start scoring three straight halfway through the period. A 6:56 goal by midfielder
Darius Stanley got the Pirates on the board with the help of an assist from attackman
Sebastian West. Charlotte would end the half with another three straight points, making the score 6-1 at the half.
Hampton would come back strong early in the second with a score from
Xavier Salley, his first goal of the year. Stanley would cash in again with 11:53 left in the second followed by a score from defenseman
DyJae Pearson to bring the Pirates within two scores at 4-6. Queens would respond by trading goals.
Miles Fawcett found the back of the net midway through the second, along with
Darius Stanley etching his hat trick into the books with another score on an assist from
Andre Myers.
The Pirates trailed Queens 8-6 going into the half. Much of the second half was dominated by Charlotte as they scored 6 of the final seven goals including pitching a fourth quarter shutout. Salley would score the last goal for Hampton on an assist from
Ethan Mitchell.
The Pirates offense was productive, setting a season high in goals for the second straight week.
Darius Stanley recorded the first hat trick of the season for Hampton bringing his season total to five. Salley would also score his first points of the year with two goals. Defenseman
Dillon Bethea would grab four ground balls along with goalkeeper
David Sadasivam having a season high 21 saves.
