HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 27, 2024) – The Hampton Pirates fell to the Bellarmine Knights in Tuesday's afternoon match by a score of 23-7 in Armstrong Stadium.

This was the third battle between the two teams, with the Knights winning the other two contests in Louisville, Ky.

How It Happened

The Knights started fast, by scoring the first two goals of the game in under two minutes. The Pirates responded as Darius Stanley netted his sixth goal of the season at the 7:55 mark off a pass from Andre Myers. Two more goals came in for Bellarmine before the combination of Myers and Stanley found the net yet again to bring the score to 4-2. A man-up goal by the Knights set the score to 5-2 at the end of the first period.

Stanley cashed in an unassisted goal to earn the hat trick just 45 seconds into the second period. Bellarmine rattled off four goals before the Pirates next, a strike at 5:37 by Canyon Steverson. This was his first goal of his collegiate career. At the half, the Knights had established a 12-4 lead.

The Knights outscored the Pirates 11-3 in the second half. Xavier Salley recorded his third goal of the season and Mamadou Meite earned his fourth off of Myers third assist of the game. The last Hampton goal came with a man-down, unassisted shot by Miles Fawcett. This was the Pirates first man-down goal since the 2019 season.

Stanley scored a hat trick for the second straight game to bring his season total to eight. Myers set a career-high in assists in the contest with three and teammate Ethan Mitchell set a career-high in caused turnovers (three). Defensive leader Dillon Bethea posted four ground balls.
