Smith and Davis Set New Records at South Carolina Invite

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Feb. 3, 2024) – Junior Abria Smith and Freshman Leo Davis each broke indoor school records at the South Carolina Invitational down in Columbia, S.C., on Saturday in the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex.

Davis won the 800m race with a time of 1:47.05. He not only set a personal best, but also a facility record. He now holds the seventh fastest 800m time in the country. It was more than one second faster than the mark Edose Ibadin earned back in 2015 (1:48.19). Smith broke her own shotput record with a win at 15.24m. She set her previous school less than a month ago at the HBCU Showcase (15.20m).

"Great track meet today," said Coach Maurice Pierce. "We got a lot accomplished at the University of South Carolina and set some new meet records and personal bests. Overall, I'm pleased."
