Hampton’s Jerry Deng Named CAA Co-Rookie of the Week

HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 5, 2024) … After propelling the Pirates past Howard at the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic, freshman Jerry Deng has been named the Coastal Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week.

During Hampton's two games this week, Deng averaged 13.5 points per game on 50 percent shooting from the field and 57 percent from three. Against North Carolina A&T he produced a career-high 10 rebounds. Deng provided HU a spark off the bench throughout the Pirate's battle against Howard at the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic. The Norcross, Ga. native, had a game-high 21 points going an efficient 8-13 from the field. In the final minute of the contest, Deng hit back-to-back threes to give Hampton the lead with 24 seconds to go.

The Pirates have not had a student-athlete receive the CAA Player/Rookie of the Week award since the 2022-23 Season. Kyrese Mullen was the last HU men's basketball player to receive a CAA weekly award back on February 27, 2023. Deng is the third Pirate in program history to be selected for a CAA mid-season award.

Hampton returns to action this Thursday inside the Convocation Center taking on Hofstra at 7:00 PM.
