Pirates Travel to Florida to Compete in Four Duals

HAMPTON, Va. (March 10, 2024) – The Hampton men's tennis team is traveling down to Florida to compete in four duals. They will play against Fairleigh Dickinson, Warner, Marist, and Marquette.

(3/11) Vs. FDU at 11:00 a.m. at Red Bug in Orlando
(3/11) At Warner at 6:00 p.m. at Warner Lake Wales in Lake Wales
(3/12) Vs. Marist at 11:30 a.m. at Lake Cane in Orlando
(3/14) Vs. Marquette at 2:30 p.m. at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando

The Pirates fell in two matches two weekends ago to NCCU (6-1) and Elon (6-0). One singles match against Elon ended unfinished as rain started to fall. Emiliano Jorquera grabbed the point at NCCU by winning his singles match 6-4, 6-4 against Leo Fortier. Coach Ana Popovic is looking to find the best doubles partners as there have been nine different combinations so far.

Season's Records

Donte Armbrister and Emiliano Jorquera have 4-3 records in singles matches. Aryan Arora follows at 3-3. Daniel Flynn earned a 2-4 record, while Shine Tokas sits at 1-5 and Benjamin Mwanza 0-3.

Jorquera and Flynn hold the best doubles record at 2-1. Flynn has won four doubles matches with three different partners.

Scouting FDU (6-4)

Jeff Brandes has been coaching the Knights since 2016. The team has started the season 6-4 with wins against St. Thomas Aquinas, Lehigh, Coppin State, Drew, Binghampton, and Wagner. They fell to Temple in their last match, 6-1.

Tauras Mickus leads the Knights with a 7-2 singles record and teammate Jorge Alonso-Cortes follows at 5-2. They have had 26 different doubles pairs.

Scouting Warner (Fla.) (4-3)

So far this season, the Royals have defeated Gustavus Adolphus, Davenport, Wartburg, and Rose-Hulman. They fell at Saint Leo, Eckerd, and Southeastern.

Scouting Marist (3-5)

Deepak Sharma is in his second full season as a part of the Red Foxes coaching staff. The team's three wins came at Lafayette, Colgate, and Fordham. Marist last match was
a loss to Lehigh (5-2).

Scouting Marquette (2-10)

Jud Shaufler is working with Marquette in his 14th season with the program. The Golden Eagles have defeated Chicago State and Eastern Illinois and most recently fell against DePaul.
