WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 6, 2024) –
Oluwatomilayo Akintunde broke the school record in the women's hammer throw at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. The meet wrapped up on Saturday afternoon at William & Mary.
Akintunde earned second place in the women's hammer throw with a throw of 59.05m. She beat
Abria Smith's previous record by over four meters that held since 2023's outdoor season (54.81m).
The women finished the day in second place with 129 points and the men in fifth (67.5).
Winners
Damali Williams won the discus event and broke the meet record with a 50.12m toss.
Dugion Blackman (1:49.18) and
Jordan Mozie (2:11.26) each won the 800m race. Freshman
Nina Pitt won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.61 seconds and freshman teammate
Daye Karib-Whyte took first in the men's shotput (15.05m) with a personal best.
Abria Smith won the women's shotput at 15.28m.
The men's and women's 4x200m team grabbed first place and consisted of
Olakunle Akande,
Deondre McIntosh, Antico Dalton,
Antoine Spencer (1:25.54), and
Tahja Peoples,
Dejah Grant, Madison Greene, and
Kayla Spencer (1:39.95).
"A great weekend at the College of William & Mary," said Coach
Maurice Pierce. "We had a school record broken, a few personal bests, and some season bests. Overall, a good track meet."
Track
Carson Moore earned third in the 100m hurdles (14.96) and
Maya Hanks fourth in the 100m (12.01).
Olakunle Akande and freshman
Antoine Spencer took second and fourth in the men's 100m race (10.67, 10.72). Spencer finished second in the 400m dash also (47.01). In the women's 200m,
Tahja Peoples placed fifth (24.97).
Drake Murphy placed fifth in the 110m hurdles (14.97) and
Kayla Spencer did the same in the 100m hurdles (14.46m).
Field
In the women's shotput, teammates
Nya Harmon,
Rochele Solmon, and
Victoria Caldwell earned second, fourth, and fifth (15.05m, 13.39m, 13.35m). Solmon set a personal best in second and Harmon placed fifth in the discus (47.47m, 43.25m).
Abria Smith finished fourth in the women's hammer throw with a personal best (56.20m) and freshman
Danielle James fourth in the long jump (5.42m).
Fanon Miller and
Daye Karib-Whyte set personal bests, grabbing third and fifth in the discus (46.12m, 46.05m).
Ellis Branch notched fifth in the triple jump (13.70m).
Floyd Tucker earned fourth in the pole vault (4.43m).
